How To Choose A Top International School In Thailand

After putting your blood, sweat and tears into your work for several years, finally that promotion or that diplomatic position has become available… with a twist. It’s in Thailand. You can’t pass up such an opportunity and you need to look at options for the continuity of education for your children. What do you need to look at?

1.    What curriculum are they teaching?
If you already are an expat, you already know there are different types of curriculums that are offered by international schools. This is done so that the children get taught the same things, no matter which corner of the planet they’re in.
Three of the most widely available are the International Baccalaureate, Edexcel, and the Cambridge International Examinations. If you are just starting out, you may need to check these out in order to determine which is best for your child.

2.    What is the application process like?

This is by far the most important step. Each and every school has rules of their own that they abide by, and one of them may be that they don’t allow new students to join as the academic year is ongoing.

It is normal for a top international school in Thailand to ask for official grade reports from the previous school. They have a long list of applicants and only few spaces available and not compromise the education of the child.
It may be prudent to make your appointments with the school of your choice well ahead of the move to avoid any last-minute scrambling. Also ensure that you have all the necessary paperwork with you when you turn up for the appointment.

3.    What are the costs like?
If your budget is a bit of a concern, you may need to do some research on what it will cost to enroll your child, or children, in a school. Some schools have separate charges aside from tuition. These can include enrolment and application fees. If you or your child wishes to have them board at the school, that’s also an extra cost.

Your employer may offer to cover part of the costs, and this will go a long way towards alleviating pressure on your budget. Some schools can provide you with a total breakdown of the annual costs and this will help you in planning your budget.
