Although many within the LGBT community are passionately fighting to get a number of new LGBT laws to be passed, there have been some advances that have been made in this fight throughout the years. One of the newest LGBT laws to be passed is a benefit for LGBT elders. There has been a presented growing issues of LGBT seniors not being able to get the equal access that they need to senior care facilities. Many elder LGBT members had felt that housing facilities had discriminated against them because they belong to the LGBT community. The state of California most recently decided that they must address the issue. They implemented LGBT laws in the state that stated that the licensed health care professionals at these elder care facilities must undergo diversity training. This is one of the LGBT laws that was formulated in order to eliminate the instances of bias that have been previously carried out.
Another of the LGBT laws that have made some improvements in terms of progress are the LGBT laws related to marriage. There are a larger number of states than in previous years that allow members within the LGBT community to join in a legal marriage. This is often a sought out prospect for those of the legal community for a number of reasons. These LGBT laws are important to many within the LGBT community because many would like to be able to share the benefit of sharing the financial benefits of a marriage. Members of the LGBT community want to be able to save money by being on the same health insurance policy, they want to be able to be listed as the beneficiary on a life insurance policy without any hassle. They just want to be able to share the same equalities that the heterosexual couples that are allowed to get married are privileged to.
Another one of the LGBT laws that has appeared to make some progression within the LGBT community are the LGBT laws that are centered around the military. In the past decade, the dialogue was opened up again about those that choose to serve the country that are members of the LGBT community. The element of the “Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell.” was the motto that was adapted by the country for many years. We now have reached a point where much heavy debate, and now national policy, has put a spin on that theory. We are moving towards a military that will now open up its mind to those members of the LGBT community that choose to serve as a military officer of the United States of America.
